對一些植物類羣的系統發育及遺傳多樣性進化進行了深入的研究，克隆了一些與植物發育及抗逆相關的基因並對它們的結構、功能及應用進行了研究。發表文章60多篇，編著作兩本，譯著一本，曾獲得國家教委科技進步三等獎一項；獲得了中國科技協會青年科技獎，國家教委優秀留學回國人員等獎項。
